Past Rotarian Derek McCutcheon, along with Sean Robertshaw, spoke to the club about their involvement with the 19th Army Cadet Program.
The 19th Army Cadet Program is one of the oldest and continually running (parading) cadet programs in Canada, being the oldest in western Canada. Sean spoke to us about the program and how it serves as an early introduction into the military, allowing young cadets to learn discipline, responsibility and hone their military interests.
The Cadet Program is partnered with the Department of National Defence (DND) but also receives financial support through public funding in addition to sponsorships and fundraisers. Derek spoke about his involvement with the sponsoring committee and their use of social media to garner more interest in the program, especially after seeing a loss of members during COVID.
