Jen Kendall, Director of the Portage la Prairie Regional Library, visited the Rotary Club today and spoke about the exciting developments that have been happened at the library.
Although operations were significantly affected during Covid, the library still maintained pick up services for books and craft kits. Since then, the library has seen upgrades to structures, lighting and computer work stations. The junior area has been redeveloped, offering renewed in-person programming. A range of new programming and services for adults (Book Club, movie nights, radon detector loans, etc.) are now offered. A focus on outreach strategies has resulted in free memberships for Portage School Division students and relationships with newcomer communities. Recent grants have added new resources at the library.
Membership and library usage is growing in a number of ways. An amazing 1000 young people visited the library to trick or treat this past Halloween! Jen shared that there are more good things to come - drop by the library and see what’s happening!
