At today's regular lunch meeting we heard from Stacy Turner of the PCI Parent Council along with Lawrence McKenzie, Principal of PCI (not pictured) and Darin Arnold Vice Principal of PCI.
They presented their grass roots project and plans to refurbish the outdoor basketball courts at PCI. The primary focus of the parent council is the physical fitness and mental well being of the students so saw this a perfect opportunity to fulfill their mandate. The current basketball courts were initially designed to be tennis courts, therefore creating hazards to those using the courts. They noted that basketball is a growing sport and is universal to anyone wanting to play and that the students are very excited at the prospect of being able to play on these renovated courts. Fundraising in earnest has begun and the group has the support of the Portage School Division. Their hope is to break ground this summer so that the courts are in full use at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year. Thank you for joining us today and congratulations on this initiative that will benefit the community as a whole.
